A momentous achievement marked the history of San Enrique as it received its first Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) on December 9, 2024. The awarding ceremony was held at the prestigious Manila Hotel in Manila City, graced by esteemed government officials and dignitaries from across the country.
The coveted award was proudly received by San Enrique’s local government team, led by Mayor Rosario Mediatrix P. Fernandez. Joining her were Mr. Vincent Andrew Cordero, the Focal Person for SGLG; Mrs. Gigi Luz Serdena, the Municipal Local Government Operations Officer (MLGOO); and Mr. Robe Jan Ivan Pagulong, representing the Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) of San Enrique.
The Seal of Good Local Governance is the highest recognition conferred by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to municipalities, cities, and provinces that exemplify transparency, accountability, and efficiency in governance. To qualify, local government units must meet stringent criteria across several areas, including financial administration, disaster preparedness, social protection, business-friendliness, environmental management, peace and order, and health.
Mayor Fernandez expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the people of San Enrique and the hardworking municipal employees who made the achievement possible.
“This SGLG is not just an award; it is a testament to the dedication, unity, and commitment of every San Enriquenhon. Together, we have proven that good governance can bring about real change and progress for our community,” she stated during the ceremony.
The recognition serves as an inspiration for San Enrique to sustain its efforts in delivering quality public service, fostering inclusivity, and ensuring sustainable development. The award also opens doors for more significant support from the national government, including access to grants and programs aimed at further empowering the municipality.
The road to achieving the SGLG was a collaborative effort involving various stakeholders, from government officials and employees to civic groups and private individuals. This milestone highlights San Enrique’s determination to raise the bar for governance and development in Iloilo Province.
San Enrique joins the ranks of other Iloilo towns that have been recognized for their exemplary governance, proving once again that even small municipalities can achieve great things when guided by vision and integrity.
