San Enrique, Iloilo — The much-anticipated concreting of the 1.1-kilometer Madarag-Iprog Junction National Road is set to improve the lives of 1,003 households in San Enrique and neighboring barangays. This P16.7-million project, funded by the Iloilo provincial government, is a crucial development linking the town to Passi City, benefiting residents from Iprog, Madarag, and the barangays of Agtabo, Dalicanan, and Gemumua-Agahon.

The road project was officially inaugurated on July 5, with Fourth District Board Member Rolando Distura leading the event on behalf of Governor Arthur Defensor, Jr. The inauguration was attended by a distinguished roster of public officials, including Mayor Rosario Mediatrix “Trixie” Fernandez of San Enrique, Provincial Engineer Romeo Andig, Uswag Partylist Congressman Jojo Ang, Iloilo Police Provincial Office Director Bayani Razalan, and Pavia Mayor Luigi Gorriceta.

The newly concreted road is expected to enhance transportation and safety, providing San Enrique residents with a smoother and more reliable link to Passi City. Mayor Fernandez expressed her deep gratitude to Governor Defensor for spearheading the project, emphasizing its impact on the municipality. “This is one of the biggest projects received by San Enrique from the provincial government,” said Fernandez.

She further highlighted how the road will not only facilitate safer travel but also open up greater opportunities for trade, particularly in the agricultural sector. “This project greatly supports the local economy, making it easier for our farmers to transport their produce to the market,” Fernandez added.

Additionally, the provincial government has allocated P38 million for the second phase of the project. This phase includes the concreting of an additional 900 meters of road, which will further connect Iprog to the national highway, enhancing accessibility and fostering further economic growth in the region.

The completion of the Madarag-Iprog road project is seen as a significant milestone for San Enrique, with Mayor Fernandez lauding the provincial government’s commitment to infrastructure development in rural communities.
