The Local Government Unit of San Enrique, led by the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO), successfully conducted the IBAPAKA (Isang Bayan Para sa Kalikasan) Program on June 27, 2024. This event served as the culminating activity for the month-long celebration of Philippine Environment Month.
The IBAPAKA Program featured a simultaneous tree-growing activity and clean-up drive, engaging various stakeholders from the San Enrique community. Activities were held at both the barangay and municipal levels to maximize participation and impact.
At the barangay level, each barangay chose specific areas within their jurisdiction to plant trees and conduct clean-up drives. This decentralized approach allowed for widespread environmental action throughout the municipality.
The municipal-level activities were concentrated at the old municipal dumpsite. Here, participants planted trees to restore and revitalize the area. Additionally, a clean-up drive took place, with participants walking and picking up trash along the roadside from the old municipal dumpsite to the municipal building and plaza.
Participants in the IBAPAKA Program included a diverse group of stakeholders:
- LGU/MENRO: Local government officials and MENRO staff
- DepEd: Principals and school heads
- Universal Robina Corporation: Representatives from the corporation
- 552 Engineer Construction Army: Military personnel
- 53rd Engineer Brigade: Additional military support
- BFP RSix San Enrique Fire Station: Firefighters
- PNP San Enrique: Police officers
- Various CSOs: Members of different civil society organizations
The collaborative efforts of these groups exemplified the spirit of unity and collective responsibility towards environmental preservation and sustainability. Mayor Trixie Fernandez praised the participants for their dedication and highlighted the importance of continued community involvement in environmental initiatives.
The IBAPAKA Program not only marked the conclusion of the Philippine Environment Month celebration but also reinforced San Enrique’s commitment to environmental protection and the well-being of its residents.
