SAN ENRIQUE, ILOILO — In observance of the National Disaster Resilience Month this July 2025, the Municipality of San Enrique reaffirmed its commitment to building a safer and more resilient community through proactive education and engagement. With this year’s national theme “KUMIKILOS – Kayang Umaksyon ng Mamamayan na Isabuhay ang Kahandaan ng Bawat Isa para Maging Ligtas sa Oras ng Sakuna!” and sub-theme “KUMIKILOS para sa Kahandaan, Kaligtasan at Katatagan”, the celebration highlights the need for collective action and preparedness in the face of natural and human-induced hazards.
Spearheaded by the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), a Disaster Resilience Symposium was held on July 7, 2025, gathering barangay officials, local volunteers, and various community stakeholders. The event served as a vital platform to share knowledge, strengthen coordination, and promote a culture of readiness and risk reduction.
The symposium tackled key topics such as emergency response protocols, hazard awareness, community-based disaster planning, and the integration of resilience strategies into local governance. Resource speakers from the MDRRMO and partner agencies emphasized the importance of grassroots participation and early action as the foundation of effective disaster management.
Municipal officials lauded the active participation of barangays, underscoring the role of every citizen in achieving long-term safety and resilience. “Disaster preparedness is not just the responsibility of government offices—it is a shared duty. When we are informed and equipped, we save lives,” said one of the local leaders during the event.
